iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X will not be eligible for the iOS 17 update

The iPhone X, announced in 2017 along with the 8 and 8 Plus models, was the brand’s first smartphone to feature the Face ID unlock function. These three devices will now only receive security updates.

According to Apple, the XS, XS Max, XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later models will receive the new features of iOS 17 in the fall.

Key new features include cleaner and more customizable calling cards, a StandBy display that displays widgets while the phone is charging, a sign-in feature to notify someone you’re home and new live voice transcription options.

The update will also include an improved autocorrect, which will allow you to see the corrections made by the device and easily go back.

The iPad also suffers

Apple tablets will also receive an update to iPadOS 17. Some devices will only receive security updates in the future.

This is particularly the case with the fifth generation iPad, launched in 2017, and the first 12.9-inch (32.8 cm) iPad Pro model.

The sixth-generation iPad, along with the fifth-generation iPad mini and third-generation iPad Air, are the oldest models with access to the new features in iPadOS 17, also due this fall.
