Canadiens: Joel Armia and Gustav Lindstrom were overlooked on waivers

Forward Joel Armia and defenseman Gustav Lindstrom were overlooked on waivers and are expected to head to Laval to join the Rockets in the MLS.

CH had placed the two players’ names on waivers Sunday afternoon and the other 31 teams in Pittman Arena can claim them both.

Armia played his final five seasons in the NHL in a Canadian uniform. Last season, in 43 matches, he scored seven goals in addition to seven assists.

Armia remains under contract for the next two seasons at an average annual salary of $3.4 million. Finn signed his contract after performing well during the Habs’ playoff run in 2021.

In 439 NHL games, the player drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the 2011 draft has combined for 75 goals and 153 points.

As for Lindstrom, he joined the Canadiens this summer in the deal that sent Jeff Petry to the Detroit Red Wings. He has played just two pre-season games this season.

This past season with the Red Wings, he had one goal and seven assists in 36 games. During his 128-game career at Pittman, all with Detroit, Lindstrom scored two goals and provided 23 assists.

Earlier Monday, the Canadiens cut forward Emil Heinemann and defenseman Matthias Norlender to trim their roster to 23 players.

Greer continues his career in Calgary

Among other names that were available on waivers, Quebecer AJ Greer was claimed by the Flames and will continue his career in the Calgary organization.

He played his first full season in the NHL in 2023-2024 with the Boston Bruins and recorded five goals and seven assists in 61 games. Greer also suited up for the Colorado Avalanche and New Jersey Devils during his 108-game NHL career.

Additionally, the Senators claimed defenseman Lacy Thompson, whom they lost to the Anaheim Ducks via waiver a few days ago.

Goaltender Ivan Prosvetov has been claimed by the Colorado Avalanche, while defenseman John Ludwig has been claimed by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Furthermore, the New York Islanders’ Ross Johnston is the only player placed on waivers on Monday.
