Sitting in bars with cake It is the kind of feature film – a mixture of romantic comedy, straight comedy and drama – that can now be found on digital platforms.

Adapted from the eponymous blog of Audrey Shulman — who also wrote the screenplay for the film — Sitting in bars with cake It starts with a simple premise: two childhood friends and now roommates develop a system to meet guys at bars by offering them cookies.

In Los Angeles, Jane (Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (Odessa Azion) serendipitously realize that there is nothing better than candy for meeting guys. Because Jane, who is shy and reserved, is an excellent cook. Corinne, an extrovert who works in the music business and whose boss is played by Bette Midler, pushes her to put her talents to good use. But the film takes a more dramatic turn when we learn that Corinne has cancer.

Without ever falling into overly clichés or overindulgence, Audrey Shulman and director Trish C (Perfect note 3) delivering a production that remains original — the dialogues and chemistry between the two actresses have a lot to do with it — and refreshing. If Sitting in bars with cake Not claiming to reinvent the genre, the feature film turns out to be the perfect 120-minute entertainment on a rainy day.
