Wayne Gretzky sued for $10 million in chewing gum call

You know, there are those stories on social media that seem so absurd at first glance that you wonder if they are true. And honestly, if that was your first reaction when I saw the title of this text, I don’t blame you: I had the same thing when I heard the news.

However, after doing some research, I realized that this story was true: NHL legend Wayne Gretzky is currently being sued for $10 million (US) in relation to chewing gum.

Yes yes chew gum.

You have to go back a bit to understand the story. A few years ago, a guy named Stephen Sparks marketed a product called OMG gumsIt is a chewing gum that claims to be able to help people lose weight.

Then, in 2017, Sparks teamed up with Janet Gretsky to make her a spokesperson for the product. However, at the same time, Wayne Gretzky invested in the company (the investment was officially made by the Gretzky family rather than Wayne himself), and a few months later, he praised the gum for its good taste and for helping it lose. £35 in a matter of weeks, prompting Sparks to invest more money in her company.

However, in February 2020, Gretzky finally admitted that he lied about the weight loss caused by chewing gum. This resulted in the company losing a lot of money and, in Sparks’ case, millions of dollars.

The latter also adds that Wayne and Janet Gretsky have arranged for him to be removed from the company as well as ordering the company’s new leaders not to use Wayne in their advertising campaigns.

It is a rather strange story, but the allegations against the Gretsky family are very serious. I don’t know if this file will make it to the end of the legal process, but it will obviously be something to watch.

Remember, Gretzky is currently a TNT analyst. Will this have an effect on his functions? I do not know him.

To continue, so.
