Coming into this 2024 Asia Cup with ambition, Australia was in the lead during the first round group stage. The Australians certainly had to work hard to make it to the round of 16 without looking too dominant. The Socceroos confirmed their qualification by first beating India (2-0) and then beating Syria (1-0). Needing a point to secure top spot, Graham Arnold's side got it with a draw against Uzbekistan, another unbeaten side in this Group B. In this round of 16, Australia need to gain momentum. Reaching the Oceanians, a possible quarter-final will be on a completely different level against the winner of Saudi Arabia – South Korea, two of the favorites for this year's title. But before thinking about their future opponent, be careful not to underestimate Indonesia. The Indonesians finished third at this stage of the tournament at best, taking the last game on offer. It was an event as it was the first time in their history that Tim Garuda competed in a decisive match! Falling into a difficult group with Japan and Iraq, with two defeats against these two selections, qualified with a win against Vietnam (1-0). But on paper, Indonesia is not ready to fight in this tournament, especially after the performances against the Japanese and Iraqis (1-3 defeats).
