Netizens were quick to respond to the look of Katie Holmes, 43, arguing that the dress and jeans combo should stay in the 2000s.

“This trend started years ago and honestly, how does Katie Holmes have the audacity to try to bring it back?” One Twitter user wrote, while another, more extreme, wrote, “Katie Holmes should go to jail for this.”
The costume, which caused a lot of ink to flow, was intended to be “younger,” says designer Bree Welch. She says the look was meant to be festive and youthful to match the Jingle Ball vibe.
If netizens protested the return of the dress worn with jeans, then in the case of Katie Holmes it was a bust.

“We decided that the rich color and intricate detailing of the bodice was chic and would be ‘fun’ with a pair of jeans,” she told the New York Times.
The sneakers, which don’t look special at first glance, are from the Maison Margiela brand. The shoes, worth more than $700, were chosen by the actress, who wanted to feel comfortable while dancing to Dua Lipa’s songs.
So netizens, who have clearly calmed down since Katie Holmes’ awkward appearance, pose the ultimate question: Will other stars be inspired by the 2000s collection?
