Maintenance and updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 are provided by the Windows Update service. On the other hand, they do not have a tool to update all installed software.
UpdateHub offers to fill this void. It is an open source tool based on winget. Its purpose is to check whether all installed software and applications are up to date. Thus it tries to address the drawback of Windows not offering integrated update support everyone installed software. However, note that for Windows apps from the Microsoft Store, automatic updates are available. On the other hand, there is no “universal” option for other programs. This is so problematic that some have their own system to ensure their maintenance (browsers for example).
As we indicated UpdateHub It is open source software. Its operation is simple. It boils down to clicking Check for Updates in the interface to perform a first scan. The process is fast. Returns a list of programs and applications for which updates are available.
The settings allow some tweaks such as the ability to change the default installation mode to silent or interactive. By default, the installation progress is displayed on the screen and certain options are handled automatically by the updater. Silent provides a background process without special interaction while Interactive comes with options.
The software presents other information such as download size, version of the software currently installed, and new versions available. On the other hand, it is not possible to know if an update is accompanied by errors and it is not possible to update several programs at the same time. An option allows you to roll back in case of a faulty update.
