UQAM honors the exceptional careers of five personalities

Poet, screenwriter and director Josephine Bacon, as well as the president of the Association of First Nations in Quebec-Labrador, Ghislaine Piccard, were honored Tuesday evening by UQAM for its promotion and defense of First Nations culture.

Thus both were awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the institution.

“Throughout his career, Chef Picard has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the principles of cooperation and respect. As a tireless defender of First Nations rights, he continues his work and struggle for the self-determination of our peoples,” the Federation confirmed in a press release announcing the news.

In addition, Marie MacAndrew, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Management and Foundations of Education at the University of Montreal, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the institution.

As for Professor Emeritus Donna Mergler and Professor Benoit Barbeau, from the Department of Biological Sciences at UQAM, they were respectively the recipients of the UQAM Medal and Radiological Merit Award.

Mr. Barbeau has made his voice heard on a regular basis in the media for the past year and a half speaking about COVID-19.
