Men’s hockey destroys young girls’ dreams

Men’s hockey destroys young girls’ dreams

Last Wednesday’s game was the Montreal Canadiens’ first game of the season.

That evening, I had hockey fever, but I also felt frustrated.

We often act as if nothing has happened, but it is frustrating to remember that women do not have the same future prospects in this type of professional sport.

A sad state of nature

If your little girl told you she wanted to be a hockey player, would you be as excited as if she were a boy? Maybe so, but aren’t you a little worried about his professional future in this sport?

Thinking about her prospects in the hockey world, wouldn’t you also advise her to find another passion to ensure she has a strong future?

When I think about all those little girls who, while watching a men’s hockey game, can’t dream big and recognize their boy peers, I feel sad.

I regret the fact that we act as if this is normal.

So we remember

To those who will tell me that there are other sports where women shine better than men, yes there are some, but the biggest salaries in the world of team sports are overwhelmingly reserved for men. We cannot deny that. Just think of football or American football players for example.

I think we have questions to ask ourselves about all this admiration we have for traditionally male sports. Wouldn’t that be too much?

My goal with this column is not to make you hate men’s hockey, but simply to remind you that young girls should also have the opportunity to dream big in the world of team sports.
