NHL: Second double in two nights for Brady Tkachuk in 5-2 win over Lightning

Brady Tkachuk scored twice on the second night in a row as the Ottawa Senators beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2 on Sunday at Canadian Tire Centre.

Matthew Joseph was credited with the winning goal against his former team, while Joonas Korpisalo blocked 22 shots to achieve his first win with the Sens (2-1) in his second start this season.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored his first goal for Ottawa, which defeated Tampa for the fifth time in a row. He took a great back pass from Ridly Greig, and returned the ball to his paddle with his skate before beating goalkeeper Matt Tomkins.

Ottawa dominated 17-3 in shots in the first period, and the Bolts’ fourth tied the score. After a serious change to the bench, the Lightning managed to increase the offensive space and Anthony Cirelli completed a brilliant passing game with Darren Rradish.

Brady Tkachuk gave the Sens the lead again by recovering a shot that was blocked by a defender, but the Bolts came back again thanks to Tanner Guinot.

Mathieu Joseph came to haunt his former club by scoring the winner 58 seconds into the second half with a fine shot into the top right corner. Tkachuk added more in the third period, then Tim Stutzle completed the score into an empty net.

At the age of 29, Tomkins made his first career NHL start and made 33 saves. No. 1 Andrei Vasilevskiy will be out for several more weeks.

John Cooper coached his 800th NHL game in defeat.

The absence of captain Steven Stamkos was felt, as he scored two goals and an assist. He has been sidelined with a lower body injury and will be re-evaluated on a daily basis.

The Senators were still without the services of forward Josh Norris. The player, who played only eight matches last season, has participated in training with his teammates since October 10, but has not yet fully recovered from his shoulder injury.
