Joint statement on cooperation in science, innovation and technology between MESR, MEAE and the UK Department of Science, Innovation and Technology

During 36^y The Franco-British summit, held in Paris on March 10, 2023, announced the establishment of a joint committee for science, technology and innovation. The goal of this committee is to help intensify scientific cooperation between our two countries by mobilizing stakeholders in areas identified as priority.

Purpose of the joint statement

Principles of bilateral relationship

Participants will work together to support their research and innovation communities to implement bilateral and multilateral activities aimed at enhancing the excellence, security and impact of research and innovation, in particular to advance the search for solutions to global challenges.

Participants will meet at regular intervals to review past, current and future cooperation and to respond to new challenges. The committee will consist of representatives of relevant ministries and, where necessary, relevant national partners and experts.

The committee will meet once every two years, alternately in the United Kingdom and France, with the first committee meeting in London on February 29, 2024.

The French Embassy in London and the British Embassy in Paris are actively participating in organizing the joint committee MEAEthe Egypt And I stepped on it.

Forms of cooperation

This cooperation in the field of research and innovation will include, but not be limited to, the following activities:

• Coordinated or joint initiatives, programs or projects;
• Meetings, workshops, conferences and seminars.
• Exchange of information and documents;
• Movement and visits of delegations;
• Strategic and coordination exchanges.

Funding will be allocated from both sides to support selected priorities.
The activities implemented aim as much as possible to encourage participation in Horizon Europe and other EU framework programmes.

This cooperation will develop while respecting the status and independence of organizations and institutions in France and the United Kingdom.
