The story ended at the end of AEW Worlds 2023.

AEW made its final show of 2023 from Long Island as MJF defended his world title against Samoa Joe in the main event of the evening. MJF wanted to win this match in front of his hometown fans and he had his great friend Adam Cole to support him at ringside.

What does this story mean for MJF's future in AEW?

As noted in Catch-Newz, MJF's initial contract with AEW expires on January 1, 2024. However, several sources have announced that he has already re-signed with AEW. The insider also said that he had not negotiated with WWE, so he was going to sign again directly with AEW.

After the conclusion of AEW Worlds 2023, Fightful evaluated MJF's future and according to their information MJF will be taking an indefinite leave of absence. MJF suffered some injuries after Full Gear 2023 as we mentioned in our previous articles and he still has not recovered.

Losing the title would be the perfect opportunity to give him a well-deserved break, but nothing is certain. The situation is worth observing as the former champion has a certain creative control and can change his future according to his desires.
