A gunman disrupts the start of the new school year at the University of North Carolina

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill saw a return to school campus disrupted by a gunman on Monday afternoon.

The authorities ordered the students to barricade themselves inside the school.

The school’s first warning was issued shortly after 1pm, according to the British Daily Mail New York Post. As of 1:50 p.m., authorities said the stay-at-home order was in effect.

Carolina police later released a photo of the suspect.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said on social network X (formerly Twitter) that “all resources necessary to catch the shooter and protect the campus will be deployed.”

β€œIt is a tragic way to start the session,” he wrote in another letter. The state will provide the necessary resources to support the entire university community.

At around 4pm, BNO News published a video showing the arrest of one person. A few minutes later, around 4:15pm, the police on X indicated that the situation was now under control.

All afternoon and evening classes have been suspended.
