‘A real struggle’: ‘Dahmer’ actor reveals why he accepted the role

Evan Peters reveals why he decided to accept the role of Jeffrey Dahmer

Evan Peters had an inner struggle accepting the role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

In a joint interview with series creator Ryan Murphy for Variety, the actor admitted that it was his confidence in his collaborator that ultimately convinced him to tackle the character.

“It was a real struggle. I really thought about it and tried to make it. In my head I went back and forth a lot. I knew you make a great support system, I trust you and there is honesty. I knew that in order to finish this thing as hard as you started it would be Great safety net. If I fall in, I can come back and we can finish this project. I was up for the challenge,” he revealed.

In addition to the mental effort he had to put in to play Dahmer, Evan Peters also transformed physically for the role, starting with a diet without carbs or sugar to lose six pounds.

Despite earning his first Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal, Evan Peters revealed that he hopes to land more interesting roles in the future. “I’m going to take a little break from dark roles and explore the light. It would be fun for me to play something a little bit closer to me, more worldly, and explore the details of those kinds of experiences,” he explained.

Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy have worked together on most seasons of American Horror Story since 2011. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered on Netflix in September.
