US: Jobless claims drop to 217,000

PARIS, Nov 9 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims fell to 217,000 in the week ended Nov. 4 from 220,000 (revised) the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists on average were expecting 218,000 jobless filings.

Registrations for the week to October 28 were revised down from an initial estimate of 217,000.

The four-week moving average stood at 212,250 compared to 210,750 (revised) in the previous week.

The number of people receiving compensation rose to 1.834 million in the week ended October 28 (the last week the figures are available), compared with 1.812 million (revised) in the previous week.
