This Android tablet could take on Samsung and Apple

Xiaomi had not only smartphones and watches in its MWC 2024 bag, but also a very large tablet with a touch screen.

The latter is intended to be a direct competitor to the iPad Pro 12.9, even if the comparison is sensitive given the disproportionate power of the iPad with its M2 chip.

144 Hz display and 10,000 mAh battery

The new Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 tablet surpasses its predecessor, the Pad 6 Pro, in terms of size and offers… 12.4-inch IPS LCD screen (yes, no OLED). The latter adopts a more square format with a 3:2 aspect ratio and offers a higher definition of 3048 x 2032 pixels, while maintaining an impressive 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 features HyperOS, based on Android 14, with apps specifically optimized for multitasking. In particular, WPS Office and CajViewer take advantage of a three-way screen sharing mode, nicknamed the “Workbench” interface, which promises simultaneous use of several applications, in parallel or via floating windows. The tablet has pogo pins on the back for magnetic connection to the Xiaomi SU7, which wouldn't be of much use to us in France. It also has a detachable keyboard, with touchpad.

We don't have an Apple Silicon chip, but performance isn't far behind, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC (2022 chip) and memory configurations ranging from 8GB to 16GB of RAM, as well as storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB. A 10,000 mAh battery supports 120W fast charging, fully recharges in just 35 minutes, with 45% of battery recovered within 10 minutes of charging. This is a notable strong point. Note that there's also Wi-Fi 7, as well as USB-C, which is USB 3.2 Gen 1 compatible.
