Summer Vacation: Many Estriens will take the route to the East Coast

Summer holidays are fast approaching and Estrie is not too far from the United States, so it is not surprising that many Estrie residents choose the American East Coast for their summer vacation. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, more and more Istrians have been going to the beaches of our southern neighbors.

The Estrins will head to the US East Coast this summer. “There is still a rebound toward Myrtle Beach and Virginia Beach,” confirmed Christian Dubreuy, co-owner of Voyage Aqua Terra Sherbrooke.

According to a survey conducted by CAA-Quebec last December, 40% of Quebecers intend to travel to the United States in the next 12 months. This is especially the case in Estriens according to the owner of the Alouette Beach Resort hotel in Old Orchard.

“We have a lot of Sherbrooke and Magog area. That's probably the biggest sector,” said Fred Kennedy, who joined there.

A similar situation was observed at Camping Virginia Beach. “During construction holidays, between 75% and 80% are from Quebec now. There are people who come here from Estrie,” said camp director Philip Upton.

But why would Estrin choose the East Coast? A Sherbrooke resident who was vacationing in Myrtle Beach spoke of the diversity the destination offers.

“During the summer, a lot of people leave Quebec to come here. Myrtle Beach is so beautiful and there are so many things to do. People are friendly and there's something “It can be done by everyone: golf courses, small shopping centers.”

Moreover, according to the CAA-Quebec survey, upon arriving at their destination, Quebecers mainly look forward to taking excursions. “It's not surprising that people's goal is to go on expeditions, so we're not going to go south, we're going to the United States,” explained communications consultant David Marcel.

The most popular activities are going to the beach, discovering history and culture, relaxing, discovering local gastronomy and doing urban exploration.

During the pandemic, people did not travel, and since borders reopened, the East Coast of the United States has become very popular. The car remains the most popular means of transportation among travelers, which explains Estrin's enthusiasm for the beaches of the East Coast.
