Goaltender Jake Allen had a rather impressive performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, stopping 42 shots, including 25 in the first period, in a 6-3 win at Scotiabank Arena.
The former Montreal Canadiens player was credited with making up for his last tough outing, during which he gave up five hits on 25 shots in a loss at the hands of the Senators in Ottawa on Saturday. This time, he held off numerous attempts from Auston Matthews' gang, even if Tyler Bertuzzi opened the scoring for the local favorites after just 63 seconds of play.

Allen has won five of his last seven meetings, which includes his most recent start with the Habs. The veteran was well supported by Jack Hughes in particular. The striker scored two goals in the third period. He took advantage of a breakaway to make it 5 to 3, before completing the score in an abandoned cage.
For the Leafs, Matthews' 59th goal is noteworthy. The No. 34 has totaled 11 points in his last two outings and still has 11 games left to try to reach 70 goals this season.
Nico Hischier scored three points, including a goal, while Jesper Brat added three assists for the winning team, which is five points adrift of the playoff spots. For Toronto, Joseph Wall struggled, surrendering five turnovers on 24 shots.
