New games and relaxation area in Faubourg d’Esquerchin

In place of the former social center of the Faubourg d’Esquération, the city of Douai has developed the Jardin d’Esquération, a space that includes, among other things, play areas and a sports area.

A new stadium has just been created in the Faubourg d’Esquerchen, in place of the old social centre, at the foot of the double water tower. It has been inaugurated since mid-July, Thursday, November 9, by Mayor Frédéric Chéroux, surrounded by his two deputies, Mohamed Khairaki and Jean-Christophe Leclerc, and District Assistant Noura Chergui. This achievement is part of the policy of the municipality that has already created playgrounds in Bertin Park in 2018 and in Templeri Park in 2021. Next year, a fourth such facility should also be developed in Durigny.

The second play area , intended for young people between the ages of 3 and 12, includes a fun structure that includes a slide and a swing suitable for people with disabilities.

This equipment is complemented by two trampolines for children aged 3 to 12 years, three fitness machines (from 14 years) and a sports area allowing to practice football, handball and basketball. All are accompanied by benches and picnic tables. “At that time, when rebuilding the Esquerchin Social Center next to the Pavillon Roux, the sports area was removed. This new equipment allowed us to recreate it“, Frédéric Chéroux rejoiced. The city of Douai did not skimp on resources: the cost of the project reached 490,000 euros, noting that the state contributed 270,400 euros.

The “Jardin d’Esquerchin” garden, as it is now called, was established on an area of ​​​​1400 square meters² The town was keen to green it by landscaping the gardens and planting 19 trees. It is open daily from 8am to 9pm and can be accessed via Blériot Avenue and Chemin de l’Enfant Jésus.
