"It wasn't my goal to be my friend."

“It wasn’t my goal to be my friend.”

Joël Bouchard has had a special relationship with Ryan Poehling and has appreciated the kind words made by his ex-pats about him while visiting Montreal.

That’s what the former Laval Rocket coach said during an appearance on “La Poche Bleue le midi” on Tuesday.

“I have a relationship with him just as I have a relationship with all my players. They didn’t all like me, I was tough with some and they might think I wasn’t the right guy for them. With Ryan, I never wanted him to like me. It wasn’t my goal to become my friend. We always had good discussions I always gave him the right time and he always took it like a man. I have a lot of respect for him.”

Bouchard also mentioned that Trevor Timmins, who had previously picked the first round, tried hard to advance in his second season at Laval.

“He arrived and scored four goals with the Montreal Canadiens. He is his zero profile and we see him today. He is a more supportive player. There were high expectations for him. His first season was challenging in the National League, but also in the MLS. In the second year, he was very good. He totally bought into what we’ve been doing. It wasn’t easy for him, but he knows I’ll always be there for him.
