Fallon Pont d’Arc. Chauvet Cave 2 celebrates science all weekend long

On the occasion of the Science Festival, Chauvet Cave 2 offers free activities to all audiences for three days, from Friday, October 13 to Sunday, October 15.

On Friday, October 13 at 6:30 pm, the conference “Animals, Human Fauna, Myths and Prehistoric Art” will be presented by Jean-Luc Le Quellec, anthropologist, mythologist and research director at the National Center for Scientific Research, who specializes in rock art in the Sahara. Prehistoric animals that inhabited the cold plains of Europe: bears, mammoths, reindeer… will be in the spotlight. Beings both human and animal that invite us to reflect on our animality.

This evening concludes the process of knowledge and flavors of prehistory, a cycle of five conferences followed by a prehistoric buffet based on archaeological data. A buffet will be served by Chef Thierry Lennon who will evoke prehistoric flavours.

Sound, light and archeology show

On Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, the sound and light show “Animal – From Prehistory to Street Art” traces representations of animals from the animals on the rock walls of Chauvet Cave to the street performers. A journey through 36,000 years of cave art…

For the little ones, a workshop entitled “Zoarchaeology, Koizaku?”, for ages 6 and up, invites you to come and play the role of trainee archaeologists and discover the special place of animals in the daily lives of Paleolithic men and women. Zooarchaeology allows you to discover the methods that archaeologists use to understand these relationships between humans and animals.

Free entry to the site with entertainment, Aurignacian exhibition and “Animal – from prehistoric to street art” show (except guided tours of the cave, reservation recommended). Workshops “Zoarchaeology, Koizaku?” 11am – 11:45am, 1:30pm – 2:15pm, 3:30pm – 4:15pm, 4:30pm – 5:15pm Information and reservation required: 04.75.94 .39.40 – [email protected]
