Although the construction holiday has officially started, motorists will still see orange cones as roadworks can still be carried out. Although the majority of the blockades will occur at night, some shutdowns are scheduled for the entire weekend.
“Users arriving from Montreal or Quebec are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly if they wish to go from one side of the river to the other, via Interstates 20 or 40,” the Department of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility said in a press release.
This is particularly the case for the Louis-Hyppolite-La Fontaine Tunnel, which will be closed north until 5am on Monday. Cars will be required to take the Jacques-Cartier Bridge exit before passing through De Lorimier Avenue South and Notre-Dame Street East. Trucks will have to pass through Notre Dame East via Bay-IX Street and Sherbrooke Street. Note that the tunnel will be closed in both directions overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
Work on Viger Avenue on Saint-Laurent Boulevard could also cause a slowdown through July 28 with two out of three westbound lanes closed.
People who have to travel at night will have to plan their trips due to the many closures on various highways in Greater Montreal, including the 13th, 15th and 440.
