The Canadiens kicked off a four-game home streak tonight by receiving a visit from the Florida Panthers.
Rookie Sean Farrell, who made his NHL debut against the Flyers, made a debut he won’t soon forget at the Bell Center.
From the second minute of the match, the young American winger opened his NHL counter, when the pass he tried against Alex Lyon slipped between the goalkeeper’s plate and the near post.
But quickly, Anton Lundell put his club level, completing the match of Matthew Tkachuk and Radko Judas.
19 Panthers did it again, 1:58 down, when his third point of the game allowed him to reach the venerable 100-point plateau.
At 3:59 of the second period, the Panthers took the lead for the first time in the game when Tkachuk completed a terrific three-pointer with Sam Reinhart and Brandon Montour.
Martin St. Louis’s team will try to get back to winning ways after losing 3-2 to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, while playing its second game in as many nights on the road.
Veteran defender David Savard has had to sit out with a lower body injury. He was involved early in the warm-up, before retreating to the locker room, leaving his place alongside Mike Matheson to Chris Weidman.
The Panthers come to the Bell Center the day after a 3-2 overtime victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Florida is still fighting for a playoff spot. The team is just one point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins, who currently hold the last card for teams drafted in the Eastern Conference. But the Panthers played another game.
Matthew Tkachuk leads the Panthers in scoring with 97 points, including 35 goals.
This will be the fourth and final duel between the two teams this season. The Panthers won the first three.
The Habs play their next game on Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes, before receiving visiting Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, and then the Washington Capitals on Thursday.
