Air Canada is suspending direct flights south of Quebec

The Canadian airline has suspended direct flights to its four “sunny destinations” from Quebec City’s Jean Lesage Airport for the duration of next winter.

So flights to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Cancun and Punta Cana have been suspended. Quebec travelers who want to visit these destinations with Air Canada can still get there, but must now stop in Toronto or Montreal.

“Several factors compelled us to make this unfortunate decision,” Christophe Henbel, a spokesperson for Air Canada, explains. First, there is strong demand for pilot programs in regional markets, and ongoing challenges in supply chains. »

Mr Hennebelle, for example, cites aircraft maintenance taking “more and more time” due to “greater difficulty” in obtaining certain parts. “All of this forces us to reconsider our network,” he says.

However, Air Canada guarantees that the suspension will only continue next winter, for now. “Anyway, these are the destinations we only offer in winter from Quebec, with the exception of Cancun, where flights have been canceled as of October 23,” says Mr Hennebelle.

The latter adds that direct flights to Cancun will be able to resume in the spring and that tickets for Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Cancun and Punta Cana can no longer be purchased for the winter for a week.

Air Transat and Sunwing still offer flights to these four destinations from Jean-Lessage Airport.
