Les ukrainiens sont pris en charge par la Croix Rouge à Tourcoing

About 50 Ukrainians are waiting on Tourcoing in hopes of reaching the UK

Since Tuesday, the British government has been easing the process of entry into the UK for Ukrainians who have left their country. Passport holders no longer have to go to the Visa Application Center. After doing the online procedure, they can reach the UK and have to provide their biometric data only once they get there. Going one step further, To review visa applications, the UK Embassy opens this Friday in the province of Pass de Calais in Aras.

Meanwhile, these complicated practices are of further concern to Ukrainians seeking to reach the United Kingdom.

Fifty of them were sent to a hotel in Turquoise on Wednesday evening with the support of the Red Cross. Volunteers like Maxence Wicke try to soften their daily lives. “They’ve gone through difficult things. They see themselves in front of a new barrier. How long will it take? We do not know. We have a lot of kids, we’re getting toys. It’s waiting. It’s a little more comfortable.”

The only British contacts for these refugees are volunteers from the Care for Calais Association. Among them, Matthew Wright finds it difficult to understand the steps to take. “It changes every day, every hour. We try to guide people, but the system is very complicated.” Britain is angry at its country. “I talked to the father of six children. The youngest was three years old. They traveled five days by road. He was tired. And where are the British officers? Where is the government? Where is the office to welcome them, help. Are they filling out their forms? Nothing, there is a wall.”

Some did not wait until the embassies in the province opened. To confirm getting the visa, they wanted to head to Paris this Thursday.
