A proposed deal involving Jonathan Drouin

A proposed deal involving Jonathan Drouin

On June 15, 2017, Mark Bergievin replaced defender Mikhail Sergechev to Tampa Bay Lightning for Quebec’s Jonathan Drouin.

Derwin had two very respectable seasons of 46 and 53 points in his first two seasons with the Canadians.

However, he unfortunately suffered several injuries and only made 105 appearances from 2019 to 2022, collecting 15 goals as well as 58 points.

One season left on Jonathan Drouin’s contract at $5,500,000.

If it wasn’t really urgent to bargain with the striker, the problem for now is that Kent Hughes has to find a way to free up space on his salary bill especially since the arrival of Kirby Deutch.

If the Habs GM decides to trade Drouin, expect it to be a salary-based move and he won’t be able to get a big comeback against the 5M+ striker who hasn’t topped 23 points since the 2018-19 season.

Today we present to you a transaction that will send Jonathan Drouin in Buffalo Sabers.

By accepting Drouin at full salary, Sabers GM Kevyn Adams introduces you to striker Anders Bjork (His contract expires at the end of next season and he will receive $1,600,000 in 2022-23.)

If you accept this transaction, the Canadian gets a $3,900,000 margin on his payroll.
