After the disappearance of the “n-word” are we witnessing the disappearance of the “f-word” on Radio Canada?

That’s the question we can ask ourselves as Crown journalist Angie Landry used the term “people with wombs” instead of “women” in a report on the effects of the vaccine.

That a columnist or host plays with these Orwellian jargon to sound good with awakened society, that’s one thing. They can say atrocities, if they assume them.

But that in a factual report a journalist turned to “Newspeak”, this is troubling.

Where are the women?

Even on Radio Canada, presenter Isabel Craig had the courage to write: “No! I’m not a ‘womb person’ and I don’t offend my colleagues/mates. And no, saying that doesn’t make me hate transgender or homophobic.” She later deleted her tweet saying that “there was no pressure from [s]One business owner.

When the news caused an outcry, a real outcry, Radio Canada backed down, removed the phrase “people with a womb” and even posted a box explaining: “These formulas could imply that women’s identification was reduced to biological terms, which was not the intention.”

The problem is that Radio-Canada, in its box, never mentions the omitted expression. It’s still weird!

Fortunately, I took a screenshot of the first version of the text. With Radio Canada, you can never be too careful…

This practice of replacing “woman” with “person with a womb” to avoid harming transgender or non-binary people is not only ridiculous, but hypocritical.

Do you know one person who expresses themselves in this way in their daily life? Even the most awakened do not scream, in a moment of panic, “The one who has a uterus on the street will be run over!” »

Can you imagine if, in the time of Alain Desjardins, we presented on television a program called People with a modern uterus ?

Should Michel Tremblay’s novel be renamed: An obese person near the uterus is pregnant ? What can I say about this wonderful classic of Quebec cinema: Two people with a golden uterus ?

What if we applied this same practice to men? We no longer use the word man and replace it with “person with a prostate”.

If we remove the word woman from our vocabulary, we eliminate the presence of women in the public space. How do we talk about the women’s legislature, the minister responsible for the status of women and even “feminism” or “femicide” if we abolish the word itself?
