The UQTR Patriotes were routed 4-0 in the Canadian Universities Men's Hockey Championship gold medal game by the University of New Brunswick Reds who had an almost perfect run to their second straight title.
Thus, the Reds won the championship for the sixth time in 10 years. It was also a perfect season for them, as they finished with 38 wins and no losses.
Former Québécois player Nicolas Savoie was able to enjoy a second title in as many years.
UNB won the tournament by silencing the opponent's attacks while all three of its opponents were eliminated during the tournament.
For its part, the University of Queensland defeated McGill University 5 to 4 in the semi-finals. The Patriots also beat the University of Moncton in the quarterfinals.
However, Trois-Rivières can take comfort that the team performed better than the previous year. The Patriots then won the bronze medal.
Goalie Samuel Richard was perfect as he made 23 saves in front of the UNB cage. Brady Gilmore, Cody Morgan and Austin Keating were the scorers for the winners. Isaac Nurse sealed the game with an empty net less than a minute before play.
Morgan also won Player of the Match honors for his team, while Felix Luzon received the honors for the Patriots.
In the third place match, the McGill Redbirds defeated Toronto 3-2.
