The perfect holiday movie

Daniel Craig takes on the role of world-famous private investigator Benoit Blanc in the film Onion Glass: A Story of Controversy From Rian Johnson, the director behind the first – and popular – movie at the frontreleased in 2019.

A genius millionaire invites his motley crew of friends to spend the weekend on his private island in Greece to compete in an upgraded version of the game Murders and Mysteries. A game that, as we can easily guess, will turn into a real tragedy: one (or more) murders must be solved.

This is the premise of the movie Onion Glass: A Story of Controversythe sequel to the adventures of the detective Benoit Blanc that we saw in 2019 in the first successful movie at the front.

Endearing the white detective

It’s hard not to fall in love with this sweet yet highly intelligent detective played by Daniel Craig. The 54-year-old British actor has managed to make us forget the charismatic and almost indomitable James Bond in a delicious way. No more expensive suits, seduction, a British accent, and superhuman strength: the white detective is discreet, attentive, and uses rather feigned naivety to his ends.

We also love this gang of stereotypical but comedic characters, made up of a muscular influencer (Dave Bautista) accompanied by his beautiful girlfriend (Madeline Klein), an assistant trying to manage the damage done to her famous client, a somewhat beige politician (Kathryn Hahn), who is… Old scientist (Leslie Odom Jr.), unlikely friend of the band (Janelle Monáe) and eccentric billionaire Miles Bronn (Edward Norton).

glass onion It entertains, makes us laugh (the uneducated and very naive ex-model played by Kate Hudson is a delicious character!) and makes us rack our brains hilariously with its uncomplicated but entertaining plot. This seems to be the recipe for success, as Netflix paid $450 million for the rights to the upcoming sequel and third.

We smile when we quickly realize that everyone present has a motive for killing the victim (as in all the good movies in… key), but we’re still going for this movie that ticks all the boxes for the perfect feature film we want to watch over the holidays.
