Teachers strike Returning to class on Monday is ‘unrealistic’, says FAE

When we learn that things at the tables are not going well, we wonder what the real intention is. Because the only way we would see a return to class on Monday was if there was a special rule. “Because we haven’t seen how we’re going to get there through negotiations,” she said at a news conference in Quebec on Thursday.

According to her, the thought of returning to class on Monday “is fun, if not completely unrealistic and disconnected from what has been happening at the table since Monday.” Because “there’s not yet enough compiled text to get there.”

The government was accused of playing yo-yo with teachers, bringing proposals to the table one day and then withdrawing them the next. She expressed her regret that we had not reached “maximum speed” in the talks in the hope of reaching a quick settlement. Mr. Legault’s comments “outraged” teachers who “have no intention of returning” to work even in the absence of strike funds.

Melanie Hubert specified that if a compromise hypothesis came to the table, the FA would have to convene its own Federal Negotiating Council to determine whether there is indeed an agreement in principle. If so, the strike will be called off. But a “return to work protocol” must be negotiated. It is possible that students will not be in class immediately. She explained that teachers’ first day of work could be used to prepare for the return of students.

While MI Hubert was at a news conference, and Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel said she was surprised by the union leader’s comments. “We are very surprised by the FAE’s comments at this stage and are convinced that an agreement is within reach with significant progress on the table for teachers and students,” she said on social networks.

When asked about this outing, Melanie Hubert made more nuanced observations. “Days like [mercredi]Rather, they brought us towards a settlement. fast ? I do not know him. But we were certainly on the right side. This trend must continue. It is true that the government has taken steps. We did that too. […] I agree with M.I LeBel: There were some interesting proposals on the table, but we must stop back and forth and continue working on each topic and not go back from one day to the next, one day succeeds, one day it doesn’t. »

There are two issues in dispute: class composition and pay scales.
