Recurring outages are depriving tens of thousands of Hydro-Québec customers of electricity in Beauce

A problem with a transmission line has caused power outages to tens of thousands of Hydro-Québec customers in several sectors of Beauce.

By Thursday afternoon, the first outage affecting nearly 95,000 customers was resolved in just under an hour.

A Hydro-Québec spokeswoman then indicated that the state-owned company had encountered a problem with a transmission line supplying distribution stations in the region.

Meanwhile, the outage prevented French-speaking customers from consulting Hydro-Québec's Info-Pannes service, which is only available in English.

However, at around 6:30 p.m., a new outage occurred, this time leaving nearly 90,000 customers without power in the same areas.

According to Hydro-Québec, areas extending from Sainte-Marie to Saint-Georges to the border with the United States were without power. This is the same transmission line that was “lost,” according to the spokesperson.

“The activation of the protection mechanism on one of our high-voltage transmission lines is currently causing a power outage in the Chaudière-Appalaches region,” the state-owned company later explained on its X account.

Just before 10pm on Thursday evening, power was restored to the majority of customers, with the most recent power outages mainly present at the Migrant Resource Center in Les Appalaches.
