The pupil of Lisa Lemire DuBois has not raced since sixth in the Challenge Stakes (Gr2) last October. Trained by William Haggas, he notably won the Prix de Sandringham (Gr2).
Purplebay’s Sparring Partner, “FR” Protagonist (Wootton Bassett) will start the Sky High Stakes (Gr3, 2,000m) on Saturday, at the same meeting. This pupil of Pierre Cornou is targeting the Doncaster Handicap (Gr1, 1,600m) and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr1, 2,000m) in the long run. Protagonist has not been seen since finishing second in a handicap at York in October, where he was the only one eliminated. Algiers (Shamardal), has won in two groups.
The return of Angel Blue
Ralph Beckett employed “FR”. Angel Blue (Dark Angel) in the Spreadex Sports Lady Wolfruna Stakes (L) at Wolverhampton’s PSF on Saturday. He has not been seen since fifth in the Sussex Stakes (Gr1) last July. In 2021, as a 2-year-old, Angel Blue won five races and ran two stakes three days apart, notably the Vintage Stakes (Gr2). Angel Blue then won the Criterium International and the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grs1).
