NHL Awards: The Hart and the Ted-Lindsay to Connor McDavid; Norris III by Eric Carlson

NASHVILLE – Conor McDavid won the Hart Award as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player for the third time in his career.

The Edmonton Oilers captain also won the Ted-Lindsay Award, given to the player with distinction according to members of the Players Association, for the fourth time.

McDavid led all Pittman League players with 64 goals, 89 assists and 153 points, the highest total since Mario Lemieux’s 161 points (69-92) in 1995-96.

He received 195 of 196 first-place votes. The other went to David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins. Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers was the third runner-up.

McDavid also won his fifth Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer, 25 points ahead of teammate second place Leon Drystel, as well as his first Maurice Richard Award, after a season of 64 goals, the best in the league.

McDavid, who also led the NHL in assists with 89, previously won the Hart in 2017 and 2021, and Ted Lindsay in 2017, 2018 and 2021. The Hart has been awarded by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, while Ted Lindsay is selected by the Members of the NHL Players Association.

Erik Carlson of the San Jose Sharks brought home the Norris Trophy. The 32-year-old defenseman became the first player since Brian Leach in 1992 to score more than 100 points in a season.

He beat Adam Fox of the New York Rangers, agent Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, to win the trophy for the third time in his career, after winning twice as the Ottawa Senators in 2011-2012 and in 2014-2015.

Carlson is the fourth defenseman in NHL history to win the Norris Trophy with two different teams after Chris Chelios, Doug Harvey, and Paul Coffey.

Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Allmark won the Vezina Trophy for the first time in his career after enjoying a stellar season with 40 wins, a 1.89 goals against average and a 0.938 save percentage. Ollmark edged out Connor Helbeck of the Winnipeg Jets and Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders.

In addition to Allmark, the Bruins have other winners after tagging the most wins and points: their captain, Patrice Bergeron, won the Selke Trophy, awarded to the best defensive tackle, for the sixth time in his career and their head coach, Jim. Montgomery was awarded the Jack Adams Coach of the Year award.

Matty Benners of the Seattle Kraken was awarded the Calder Award as the best rookie. His 57 points allowed him to take first place among first-year players. He finished tied for top with 24 goals.

The other finalists are Buffalo Sabers fullback Owen Bauer and Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner.

Kings center Anze Kopitar won the Lady-Byng (Sportsmanship) Trophy for the second time in his career. He received the same honor during the 2015-2016 season.

The Mark Messier Trophy, which rewards the player who has shown the most leadership, was presented to Tampa Bay Lightning captain Stephen Stamkos.

Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) vote for the Hart, Norris, Silk, Calder, Lady Byng, and Bill Masterton Awards (Perseverance and Devotion). The general managers determine the Vézina winners, while the members of the NHL Describers Association award the Jack-Adams Award.
