New homes…without electricity

Over the past two years, new home construction has spread almost everywhere in Quebec, making it even more difficult to provide everyone’s basic needs on time.

This is particularly the case in Trois-Rivieres, where young people have learned the hard way that their new home will not be plugged in when they arrive.

Nicolas Monplaisir learned last weekend that his house would not have electricity when he got home. However, he is moving this Friday with his wife. Thus, the new homeowner who is also a new dad in the hotel may end up.

“We have milk machines for the little ones. We have [aussi] “He needs electricity to heat his room if we want to put him to bed at night,” explained Mr. Montpelisir, adding that an electric generator would solve some, but not all, problems. Without electricity, it is impossible to keep food cold.

The situation is complicated at Hydro-Québec, where there are delays. Two years ago, we had an economic and social situation. In short, connection requests increased by 50%. This creates certain challenges, explained Marc-Antoine Rouest, a spokesperson for Hydro-Québec.

Therefore it is necessary to plan in advance to get electricity on time. In addition, when the coil requires the involvement of an electrical engineer, delays can range from 9 to 12 months.

According to the promoter, Fauvel management, Nicolas Montplaisir’s file was opened in August 2021. Is the document or signature missing? Is it a shortage of manpower? It’s hard to tell who’s wrong. These delays cost the contractors dearly, as they have to use generators to get there.

A family from Saint-Étienne-des-Grès is also concerned that there will be no electricity for their December move. Two columns are missing and the waiting time is estimated to be about nine months.
