Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel: Another complete closure this weekend

Motorists in the greater Montreal area will once again have to be patient, as the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel will once again be completely closed towards South Beach this weekend.

So Interstate 25 will be closed from 12:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7 to Monday, May 9 at 5 a.m. between the Montreal (downtown)/J.- Bridge Quartier and the entrance from Route 132.

However, entrance from Sherbrooke Street East will be closed from Friday, May 6 at 11:30 p.m., but entrance from Solini Avenue East will remain open.

Île Charron will remain accessible at all times and Highway 20 will be accessible from the island.

A total closure is also planned south on the A-25 between the Montreal (downtown)/Pont J.-Cartier exit and El Sharon throughout the week, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

If such closure is required for demolition of the concrete screed in the right lane of the southbound tunnel and for demolition work in the service lane, it can cause a lot of trouble for motorists.

This roadwork has already caused a significant slowdown over the past weekend, with access to the south shore mainly via the Jacques-Cartier Bridge.

And the situation should continue over the next few weeks, with the Quebec Department of Transportation (MTQ) already notifying that the tunnel should be closed in the south direction over the weekend of May 13-16.
