Italy is demanding equal weight, along with England and Japan

Italy’s defense minister has called for equal weight in the UK-Japan partnership to develop the Tempest 6th generation fighter jet.

The British promise to release a Tempest demonstrator before 2030. But for now, nothing is done, everything is just beginning, especially the sharing of shares between the three main partner countries, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan.

According to Reuters, Italian Defense Minister Guido Croceto, co-founder of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party, is concerned about Rome’s role. It demands equal treatment in association with both other countries. Guido Grosseto said a final decision on how much to invest in the multibillion-dollar project will be made only after those details are worked out.

“Italy can only continue on this path if technology, research and then, if it comes to that, Japan and Great Britain have equal weight in the results,” he said in an interview, adding that he wanted a “33”. %-33%-33%” split.

Other partners

British BAE Systems, Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Italian group Leonardo are partners in the design of the aircraft, with participation from European missile manufacturer MBDA and other companies.

According to the Italian minister, there should be no obstacle to joining the competition European project, adding that other partners can join the project with three countries.

“I think the challenge is to accelerate the research and technology sector significantly and become attractive to other countries in the next two or three years,” he told Reuters.
