Indian giant Tata's mega battery factory to be built in UK

“Acratas, Tata Group's battery subsidiary, will build the UK's largest battery factory at the Gravity Smart complex near Bridgwater,” the statement said.

Tata, the owner of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), announced this summer that it has chosen the United Kingdom to build a mega-electric battery factory at a cost of “more than £4 billion” in a bid to decarbonise its automobile sector.

Tata said at the time that the factory, with a planned capacity of 40 gigawatt hours, would “create 4,000 new direct jobs and thousands more in the wider supply chain”.

Construction will take place “in stages” and battery production is expected to begin in 2026, the press release said Wednesday.

JLR and Tata Motors “will be the first customers” of the factory and Agratas, the press release continued.
