The French Institute of Vine and Wine (IFV) offers the general public selection and varietal creation activities. The National Center for Vine Selection opens its doors to families as part of the scientific and mathematical course organized by the city of Grau-du-Roi in Gard on the occasion of the Science Festival.

With their feet on the 40 hectares of sand on the Espiguette property or in the shelter of the building designed by architect Joseph Masuta, participants are presented with several challenges on October 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mathilde Andreu, the French javelin record holder and Rio Olympics athlete, runs the CrossFit Nursery. “It will be a matter of tests of strength and speed while learning how to grow vines.” IFV promises. In the “Race for Grape Varieties”, young and old will have to show a good sense of observation to find a grape variety in a row of vines from a leaf. During “Basketball Selection and Varieties Creation,” you will involve shooting and tossing a ball into a basketball hoop to find varieties adapted to climate change and agroecology. In “Lab Games”, the audience will have to discover viruses, plant plants and vine fungi.
