The trial of Donald Trump for his negligence in managing classified documents after he left the White House will take place in May 2024. This was announced by the judge in charge of the case on Friday morning.
The trial will begin in federal court in Fort Pierce, Florida, on May 20, 2024, Judge Eileen Cannon said.

In doing so, he became the first former president in US history to be charged by federal justice.
In August 2022, more than 11,000 documents were seized from his luxury resort, Mar-a-Lago, Florida. In particular, US justice accuses him of endangering the security of the United States through his possession of military plans and information on nuclear weapons.
According to the indictment, the former president stored classified documents in several rooms of his residence, including the bathroom.

The former president pleaded not guilty in June.
Prosecutors had called for the trial to begin in December, as defense lawyers demanded a trial after the presidential elections in November 2024, for which Donald Trump wants to be the Republican nominee.
Moreover, the trial will take place in the middle of the presidential primary campaign.

A federal judge on Wednesday denied the former president’s appeal following his May 9 civil conviction of sexually assaulting a former journalist and writer in the 1990s.
Georgia’s attorney general is due to announce by September the results of an investigation into his lobbying to try to change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
An investigation is also under way by Special Attorney Jack Smith for his role in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
