The 26-year-old fullback will be entering the final year of a six-year contract that earns him $4.95 million annually. He initialed this agreement with Alberta Formation in 2018.

The American also has a no-trade clause in his contract. So the Boston native will have to provide a list of eight squads he would like to join.

The 6-foot-3 scored 38 points, seven goals and 31 assists in 81 games last season.

The eight-year NHL veteran was the first pick of the Carolina Hurricanes, fifth overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft. The Hurricanes later traded him to Calgary along with Elias Lindholm in exchange for Dougie Hamilton, Adam Fox, and Michael Ferland.

The Flames’ general manager, Craig Conroy, will be in for a huge headache next season. The contracts of three other influential players will expire at the end of the 2023-2024 season. These are Tyler Toffoli, Mikael Backlund, as well as Elias Lindholm.
