Australia supports Pacific athletes

Initiative is not common. With regard to the Tokyo 2020 Games, Australia has decided to provide assistance, particularly financially, to athletes from other countries in the Pacific region in anticipation of the Paris 2024 Games. Called “PacificAus Sports”, the move is “ Sports Diplomacy » Launched before last summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is renewed this year with the support of the Australian Federal Government. More than 230 able-bodied and disabled athletes from 13 countries on the Oceania continent will benefit ahead of the Paris 2024 Games. They can compete in elite competitions in the coming months and have access to the top training facilities in Australia. Abroad too. Oceania Paralympic Committee President Paul Baird commented: ” This support is vital for our Pacific Island Paralympic athletes to achieve their goals and perform at their best. With this level of funding, we will bring the largest representation of Pacific Paralympic athletes and nations to Paris in one Games – double that of Tokyo 2020.
