WASHINGTON / BEIJING (Reuters) – Chinese officials said on Monday that US officials should stop calling for Beijing’s diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics to avoid damaging bilateral relations with China and take “counter-action” if necessary.

CNN television reported Sunday that the administration of US President Joe Biden will announce this week that it will not send any official delegates to China for the Beijing Winter Olympics, which take place from February 4 to 20.

Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online.

“If the United States continues to implement this plan, China will take decisive action,” he said.

Joe Biden said last month that he was considering sending top envoys to China for the event because of the country’s human rights situation, including the US condemnation of the genocide of the Muslim Uyghur community in the Xinjiang region.

The US administration is facing pressure from activists and Congress to avoid sending a diplomatic team to China.

Neither the White House nor the State Department wants to comment on Sunday’s CNN news. Four sources familiar with the matter have previously told Reuters that the hypothesis of a boycott was a more and more consensus within the White House.

CNN said on Sunday that the decision would not prevent American athletes from participating in the Beijing Olympics.
