An uncomfortable scene occurred on Long Island on Thursday when Erik Brannstrom left the game between the Senators and Islanders on a stretcher.
Midway through the second half, the young Sens defender was brought down by Cal Clutterbuck and his head absorbed the impact.
Brannstrom remained on the ice for several minutes and went into convulsions. He was then left on a stretcher while he was conscious.
During the match, the Saints issued a reassuring update on the health condition of the 24-year-old goalkeeper on the X platform.
“After being injured in the second half tonight, Senator Erik Brannstrom is alert, has use of his extremities and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation,” the Senators said.
The Ottawa club ended up losing 3 to 2, after Noah Dobson scored the game-winning goal 13:15 before the end of the last period.
