University of Vermont hockey coach fired for inappropriate text messages

Head coach Todd Woodcroft was fired by the University of Vermont (UVM) for inappropriate text messages sent to a student.

This was announced by the institution on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old was at the helm of the university’s men’s hockey team for three seasons. He is also the brother of Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft.

“The University of Vermont Athletic Department has very high expectations for the behavior of our coaches and everyone involved in our department. After reviewing the results of an investigation by UVM’s Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity that concluded this week, Coach Woodcorft clearly did not respond.

“The conduct that led to the investigation included inappropriate text messages with a UVM student and crossed professional boundaries.”

Prior to joining UVM, Woodcroft worked with several National League teams, including as assistant coach, director of scouting and scouting, and head of video. He worked for the Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Calgary Flames, and Winnipeg Jets.
