The UK’s first bioLNG production plant will be commissioned in 2024 as a result of a collaboration between British company RenEco and Dutch Nordsol.

Located near Rushden, on a RenEco-owned site that already produces biomethane and electricity from waste treatment, the plant will benefit from Nordsol’s liquefaction technology know-how. Expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2024, the plant will produce 3,400 tonnes of bioLNG per year. It is enough to cover a distance equivalent to 13 million kilometers for a heavy goods vehicle.

The Rushton facility is the first step in a wider strategy to install several bio-LNG plants across the UK, underlining Nordsol’s commitment to the transition from biogas to bio-LNG in the UK. “, the two companies announced in a joint press release.

Nordsol is considered one of Europe’s largest bioLNG specialists. The company already operates a bio-LNG production plant in the Netherlands, which operates cargo operations with partners Shell and ReniV. A second factory in the eastern part of the country has started construction. Its production will be dedicated to the maritime sector.
