Türkiye: 11,000 years in prison for the founder of the cryptocurrency platform

Cryptocurrency exchange founder Thodex, who fled Turkey with his clients’ assets, was sentenced to 11,196 years in prison on Thursday evening, Turkish media reported.

The same court in Istanbul sentenced the two brothers of Faruk Fatih Ozer, the main accused, to the same punishment, according to the official Turkish Anatolia News Agency.

The founder of the Thodex platform, wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, was arrested in Albania in August 2022, sixteen months after he fled Turkey.

It was delivered to Türkiye last April.

The Turkish authorities accused Faruk Fatih Ozer of fleeing with assets worth two billion dollars belonging to nearly 400,000 users.

The platform suspended its activities overnight after publishing a mysterious message indicating that it needed five days to process an unspecified external investment.

Thodex had implemented a major advertising campaign to attract investors, and specifically promised to provide luxury cars to some of them.

The platform also offered amazing discounts on Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency originally a parody but which has since exploded due to interest in – among others – billionaire Tesla and X-X boss Elon Musk.
