Kia is laying the groundwork for the launch of its first pickup truck of the 21st century and Australians will apparently be unveiling a front-row seat. At least, a Kia Australia press release issued today (yesterday in their time zone) announces the upcoming airing of the ad. Kia has a ute coming.
Let us point out from the outset that the Australian exposure ute (pronounced “yout”) refers to pickup trucks with frame frames and unibody chassis, such as the Ford F-150. Hyundai Santa Cruz.
However, this ad announces the imminent arrival of a van without actually showing it. Filmed in an outback Australian pub setting, the quirky ad features no fewer than 20 major local sports stars, a sign of importance for this futuristic production.
Tasman, his name is… really?
In turn, each of these personalities offers their guess at the name the van will bear. In short, we currently know that a van designated by the letters “TK” is in development from the Korean manufacturer. It is a Ford Ranger van or A Toyota Tacoma With four doors.
The manufacturer has confirmed that the van will be launched by the end of 2024 and will go on sale in Asia and Oceania from 2025 onwards, starting in Australia. We've already seen her silhouette on one page of the brand's Australian website! However, we don't know if it will be offered in North America as well.
Meanwhile, on YouTube, you can find some of its prototypes in the video below, which aired last January on South Korean channel Wooba TV. We see a masked prototype being filmed in a public parking lot, unbeknownst to the manufacturer.
