The Canadians agree with Alex Newhawk for the next four seasons

The Montreal Canadiens agreed on their new acquisition, forward Alex Newhawk, to terms on a four-year contract.

The news, reported by Sportsnet’s Elliott Friedman, was confirmed by the Habs on Tuesday morning. Newhook will earn $2.9 million annually.

Remember, Newhook was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche, by the Habs, on the sidelines of the last NHL draft, in exchange for picks 31 and 37 as well as Gianni Fairbrother.

In the Avalanche’s first round in 2019, he was unable to establish himself offensively with Denver in his first two pro seasons, scoring 33 points in 71 games in 2021-2022, then 30 in 82 games last season.

On Twitter, Newhook stated that he is very satisfied with his new agreement with the Canadian.

Versatile player

After making the acquisition, the Canadian’s general manager – also a former Newhook agent – was optimistic about the 22-year-old striker’s potential.
