“Something like this could only happen to me”: she yawns so hard that her jaw jams

A New Jersey woman yawned so hard that her jaw jammed, forcing her to go to the hospital to tape her mouth shut.

Jenna Sinatra, 21, shared her bizarre incident on her TikTok account.

The event allegedly occurred last week, a few days before the young woman's birthday. The latter had dislocated the joints in her mouth when yawning, which prevented her from closing it.

The injury required hours of work by doctors who gave him medications to relax his muscles and try to “reset” his jaw.

“Something like this could only happen to me,” the influencer wrote in the caption of the video, which has been viewed 7.4 million times.

Dr. Anthony Yuen, a plastic surgeon from Michigan, responded to the Sinatra video by describing the phenomenon she experienced. This is “open lock” syndrome, which leaves the jaw completely stuck.

“It's very rare, but when it happens, it's often after a big yawn,” the health professional explained in his video, which has received 3.2 million views.
