Quebec City of Gourmet: Here are two original dairy products to celebrate the arrival of summer!

Summer has finally arrived and with it, the sweet treat of a trip to the dairy bar in nice, warm weather. While some prefer the classics, like a chocolate-dipped snack, others like to discover frozen creations that stand out. Here are two original creams that are a real paradise for sweet tooths.

La Folle Tablée: In the land of unicorns

Snack bar Crazy table, in Charlesburg, created a creamy ingredient in the summer of 2020 to do well in the midst of a pandemic. The success was instant and the beautiful black chocolate ice cream cones made of edible charcoal took social networks by storm. But don’t look for black ice this year, it’s not coming back. “It’s very expensive to produce and not everyone liked it,” explains the owner, Audrey Ann Beaulieu.

La Folle Tablée instead relies on soft pink vanilla ice cream, which is tempting.

We find it in the groundbreaking unicorn cone, whose soft cream is crowned with a gold-plated cow, pretty ears, as well as sprinkled with candy. “It’s very Instagram or Pinterest. People come from far and wide for it,” notes the owner, who is also a pastry chef by training.

Homemade delicacies

In this eat-with-your-eyes restaurant, delicacies and homemade desserts, such as succulent brownies, pecans or caramels, are also highlighted.

I fell in love with the strawberry and basil pieces. It’s garnished with strawberries and fresh basil, topped with shortbread crumbs and balsamic cream. One word is enough to describe the result: wow! If you’re looking for something a little less sweet, this is it.

Also featured on the menu is a slush made with homemade syrup from Quebec fruits (blueberries, strawberries, sea buckthorn).

“Every year, I try to surprise the clients,” says Audrey Ann, who does a lot of research and development.

She’s proud of her Japanese-inspired creation, the Melon Pan, which is shaped like an ice cream sandwich. Prepared from donut dough and covered with cookie dough, served hot and covered with soft ice cream.

The cream also offers vegan ice cream from the Quebec company Séva, as well as dog ice cream with a homemade peanut butter cookie.

Wendell & Lilo: A little bit of Disney in Quebec

On the strength of their success with the counter cheese cake Wendell and LiloSisters Maïka and Raina Tremblay-Morissette opened their own cream section on their large estate in Lauretville in the summer of 2021.

Liloland, as they called it, is colored with touches of fuchsia and turquoise. The huge porch behind the ancestral home has a hundred seats. A big fan of Disney, Maïka took inspiration from this magical place to create the atmosphere of action.

“We wanted to give people a place to break away from routine and enter a magical world where you can go back to childhood,” Maïka photo.

Their main product is waffle A very popular delicacy in Japan. Honeycomb waffles are baked in a mold imported from Asia and topped with ice cream, brownie cubes, crumble and homemade coulis. Kids and adults love it!

“We found it interesting to serve something hot and crunchy with ice cream,” Maïka explains.

For those with a less sweet tooth, Liloland has been offering a delicious version since this summer. Waffle topped with fried chicken, coleslaw and spicy Thai sauce.

You should also try the layered pieces with ice cream, coulis and fresh fruit. Here, too, everything is homemade.

“We stand out a lot with our recipes. Practically nothing is bought commercially. The taste and quality of the products matter,” she concludes.

A second Liloland has opened in Cap-Rouge since last summer.
